Welcome to my review of the Hoco UC207 Cup Shaped USB Car Charger. This is an interesting product as it not only charges USB devices it also adds an extra two cigarette lighter ports to make up for thew one it takes. It also has a cup-shaped design meaning it can be sat in your cars cup holder.
Design and quality:
As I mentioned above, this is shaped like a cup, which allows it to fit in a car’s cup holder. This is a pretty cool idea although car cup holders aren’t exactly universal, so you may find this to be too small or too big, I found it to just loosely fit.
I love the built-in phone holder, although I have found it better to have the phone inserted horizontally as it seems more secure that way. I have had the phone fall out a few times when stood up. This phone holder also makes a great way for passengers to watch a movie on the small screen while on a long journey. The holder can be turned to be positioned any way that you like, so you can have it turned towards the passenger side to avoid distractions.
The cable has a thick coating that is of a high quality. The only issue I have with regards to the cable is that there’s no way to hide it so it’s always in the way, which kind of makes it look messy, particularly as other cables are running to the charger itself.
At the top of the cup are four ports, two of which are USB ports that are perfect for charging phones, tablets, audio players and many other USB charged devices. The other two ports are standard cigarette lighter ports with inputs of 12 and 24 volts.
In terms of quality, I am impressed, the product looks and feels well made. When I pick it up I can feel the weight of it and the thickness of the plastic. Both of these factors give me loads of confidence in the quality of this product.
The USB ports on this work a charm and can charge all three of my phones just as quick as a normal plug socket would. The fact there’s two means I have been able to have mine and my partner’s phone on charge at the same time.
The other two ports mean we get the main lighter port back, plus one more port for plugging a lighter in or anything else that requires on of these connections such as a pump, car vacuum or a generator.
As I mentioned earlier the cable gets in the way and gives the setup a messy appearance, which is a bit of shame for a product that is otherwise pretty good.
This is a brilliant little device to have for anyone who wants a USB phone charger for their car but also wants to keep the standard port for other things. The build quality is fantastic and the device works really well.
I received this product at a discounted price in return for my honest and unbiased review. This has had no effect on my overall opinion of the product.
